Cleaning Up Your Sticker's Edges

When a background is removed from a picture, a few stray bits sometimes stay behind — a faint halo along the edge, specks floating nearby, or a piece you'd rather not keep. The Touch up tool lets you erase those bits and cut pieces away, right in the designer.

Touch up lives in the small toolbar above your design (under Tools on a phone). It becomes clickable once two things are true:

1. Your Cut Shape is Contour (the cut that follows your image's outline).
2. The background has been removed — either you clicked Remove background, or your picture already had a transparent background.

Until then the button is grayed out. That's because these tools exist to tidy up the outline your sticker is cut along, and only contour stickers have one.

1. Click Touch up in the toolbar.
2. Choose Eraser.
3. Pick a brush size — Small, Medium, or Large.
4. Rub along the edge of your picture where the stray marks are. They disappear as you rub.
5. Rubbed away too much? Click Undo — each click takes back one stroke.

A few things to know:

• The eraser only works near the edge of your picture. You can't accidentally poke a hole in the middle of your design, no matter how much you scrub. Faint wisps and specks around the outside can always be erased.
• On a phone, the eraser circle floats a little above your finger, so your finger never hides what you're erasing.
• The dashed cut line hides while you erase, so it can't be mistaken for part of your picture. It comes back — freshly redrawn around your cleaned-up image — when you switch tools or finish.

Use Trim when a whole chunk needs to go — a floating blob, a shadow fragment, or a part of the design you don't want.

1. Click Touch up in the toolbar, then choose Trim.
2. Click once on one side of the part you want to remove, and once on the other side, so the dashed line crosses all the way through it — both ends should sit outside your picture.
3. The piece that would be cut free is covered with a striped highlight, and a Remove selected button appears.
4. Check the highlight is on the right piece:
   • Wrong side highlighted? Tap the piece you want removed and the highlight moves to it.
   • Want to adjust the cut? Drag either end of the line — the highlight updates when you let go.
   • Want to start over? Click somewhere away from the highlighted piece, or press Esc.
5. Click Remove selected. The piece disappears, along with its faint edge halo.

If you see "Extend a point past the edge to cut the piece free", your line stops in the middle of the picture — drag one of its ends further out, past the edge, so the cut goes all the way through.

Like the eraser, every removal is one Undo step, so you can always take it back.

Edges are fiddly, so zoom in for a closer look (zoom works anywhere in the designer — see Zooming In on Your Design):

• On a phone: pinch with two fingers to zoom, and move around with two fingers. Don't worry about stray marks — two fingers never erase anything.
• On a computer: hold Ctrl (or Cmd on a Mac) and scroll to zoom in and out. Once zoomed, scroll to move around, or grab the middle of your sticker — the pointer becomes a hand there — and drag it. You can also use the + and − buttons in the corner of the design area, and the 1× button to jump back out.

The eraser gets finer as you zoom in — zoomed to double size, it erases twice as precisely. The zoom is only for your eyes: it doesn't change your sticker's size, and it stays where you set it when you close the tool, so you can check your work up close. Press 1× any time to jump back out.

Your sticker's printed size always matches its outline. If a trim or some erasing changes your design's proportions — say you cut off a piece that stuck out the side — the Width and Height update a moment later, and the price with them. Undo puts them back too.

Q: Why is the Touch up button grayed out? A: It needs a Contour cut shape and a removed background. Pick Contour under Cut Shape, and remove the background if you haven't — then the button lights up.

Q: I'm rubbing the eraser over my design and nothing is happening. A: That's the eraser keeping you safe — it only erases near the edge of your picture, never the middle. If you're zoomed in on a computer, dragging from the middle moves the view instead. To erase, rub along the outline itself.

Q: Can I get back something I erased or trimmed off? A: Yes. Undo steps back one stroke or one removal at a time. Reset takes your picture all the way back to how it was when you uploaded it.

Q: Will the striped highlight print on my sticker? A: No. The stripes just show you which piece will be removed. They disappear as soon as you confirm or start over.

Q: The dashed outline around my image vanished while erasing. Is something wrong? A: No — it's hidden on purpose while you erase, so you can see your picture's true edge clearly. It comes back as soon as you switch tools or close Touch up.

Q: My sticker's size changed after I trimmed a piece off. Why? A: The size you're shown is the real printed size of your sticker's outline. Cut a piece off and the outline gets smaller, so the size (and price) update to match. That's the size your sticker will actually be.

• You tap two points but only see "Extend a point past the edge…" — Your line doesn't cut all the way through. Drag one end of the line further out, beyond your picture's edge, and the striped highlight will appear.
• The highlight is on the part you want to keep — Tap the piece you actually want removed. The highlight swaps over to it.
• The highlight and button disappeared after a tap — You tapped the highlighted piece, which unselects it. Tap the piece you want removed and it comes back.
• Erasing split your design and the cut line now bridges the gap — The contour cut is always one continuous line, so if erasing separates two parts, the cut line will connect them. Undo the stroke if that's not what you wanted.
• You're zoomed in and can't find the spot you were working on — Scroll (or drag with two fingers on a phone) to move around, or press the 1× button in the corner of the design area to zoom back out.
• Pinching zooms the whole page instead of the sticker — If the page itself has zoomed, zoom the page back out and pinch again with both fingers starting on the design.
